What if I am not a suitable candidate for laser vision correction surgery?
A small number of patients are not suitable for laser eyeglasses surgery, due to several reasons, such as: severe visual impairment or very high numbers, thin cornea, keratoconus, corneal diseases and systemic diseases, etc. In most cases, these patients receive a negative answer that they cannot get rid of glasses at all and there is no surgical way to get rid of glasses, apparently. Recently, thanks to modern technologies and advanced lenses, it is possible to remove glasses for people who are not suitable for laser surgery. These patients have two options, lens implantation surgery or lens replacement surgery:
ICL or ARTISAN lens implantation surgery: This surgery is an excellent option for getting rid of glasses for patients who are not suitable for laser eyeglasses surgery due to severe visual impairment or very high numbers or other reasons. This surgery is especially suitable for the younger generation, especially those under the age of 40. In this surgery, a small and thin silicone lens, like a contact lens, is implanted in the eye behind or in front of the iris (the colored part of the iris). With this surgery, high numbers and severe deviations (cylinder) can be corrected with excellent results without any damage to the cornea. The treatment and recovery period is short and the success rate is high.
Lens replacement surgery: This procedure is recommended for patients who are not suitable for lens implant surgery, or for older patients over 40 years of age. This procedure is also an excellent option for getting rid of glasses for patients who are not suitable for laser surgery to remove glasses due to severe visual impairment, very high astigmatism, or other reasons. In this surgery, the natural lens of the eye is replaced with a silicone intraocular lens as in cataract surgery. In such a procedure, different types of lenses can be implanted to correct high numbers and severe deviations (cylinder). The treatment and recovery period is short and the success rate is high.
