Who is Dr. Orwa Nasser

Dr. Orwa Nasser is an ophthalmologist and surgeon and is the director of cornea service and adult and pediatric ocular anterior segment service at Ziv Medical Center in Zefat, Israel. Dr. Nasser carries two subspecialties (AUPO Fellowship) which were performed at prestigious hospitals in the United States. The first subspecialty is in cornea, cataract, anterior segment of the eye and refractive surgery, and thesecond subspecialty is in pediatric eye diseases, strabismus and nystagmus
Dr. Nasser completed hid medicine studies (MD) in 2008 from the Hadassah Faculty of Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and also completed a master’s degree in public health (MPH) in 2010 from the same faculty. After that, in 2008/2009, Dr. Nasser performed an internship at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem and later on, between 2010-2014, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at Bnei Zion Hospital in Haifa.

Following his residency in ophthalmology, Dr. Nasser moved to the United States in 2015 and spent four years performing fellowships (subspecialties) in ophthalmology. In the first year (2015/2016), Dr. Nasser completed a clinical and surgical fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus and nystagmus at Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio – USA, under the guidance of Prof. Richard Hartle, the leading expert in nystagmus surgery. In his second year (2016/2017), Dr. Nasser completed additional clinical and surgical fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa – USA, which is considered one of the leading medical centers in the US and the world in eye diseases and surgeries. During these two years, Dr. Nasser has gained a tremendous knowledge and clinical and surgical experience in pediatric eye diseases and surgeries, strabismus and nystagmus in adults and kids, eye trauma in children, cataracts in children, glaucoma in children and hereditary eye diseases.

Then, for two years (2017-2019), Dr. Nasser performed clinical and surgical fellowship in cornea, cataract, anterior segment of the eye, and refractive surgery. This fellowship was performed at UTSW Medical Center in Texas – USA, in an eye department considered the largest in the United States and one of the leading departments in the United States. During this fellowship, Dr. Nasser has gained extensive clinical knowledge and surgical experience in corneal diseasesand transplants, cataract surgery, refractive surgery, special lens transplantation, iris repairs, and eye trauma.
In late 2019, Dr. Nasser returned from the United States and was appointed as the director of cornea service and adult and pediatric ocular anterior segment service at Ziv Medical Center in Zefat, which belongs to Bar Ilan University’s Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Nasser is an active member of global and local organizations such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology(AAO), the Cornea Society, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), the World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS), the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), Israel Ophthalmology Society (IOS) and other organizations.
​ Dr. Nasser is active academically and has a number of studies and publications. He also attends many global and national ophthalmology conferences during which he gives lectures and presents his research work. In addition, Dr. Nasser is a reviewer in scientific journals such as the Cornea journal, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (JPOS) journal, and more.

Dr. Nasser is active in humanitarian organizations and travels to third world countries to volunteer and perform eye surgeries for adults and children for free.

Humanitarian work

Humanitarian work of Dr. Orwa Nasser​:

​ Dr. Nasser is an active volunteer in fighting blindness in the world. In collaboration with humanitarian organizations, Dr. Nasser volunteers in third world countries and performs many free surgeries for those in need and those who cannot afford medical treatment. on these trips, Dr. Nasser performs surgeries for free on adults and children like cataracts, strabismus, corneal transplants, glaucoma and other types of surgeries.

Africa / Nigeria project 2019:​

In July 2019 Dr. Orwa Nasser has performed a humanitarian medical mission trip in Africa, Nigeria to perform eye surgeries for needy blind patients. During this mission Dr. Nasser performed more than one hundred and twenty surgeries for kids and adults who cannot afford surgery costs and all were for free and without any charge. Dr. Nasser performed ten corneal transplant surgeries for kids and adults, twenty pediatric cataract surgeries, twenty glaucoma surgeries for kids and adults and seventy cataract surgeries for adults and other surgeries.
A well-known companies supported this project like Alcon who donated lenses for cataract surgeries and eyedrops, CorneaGen who donated corneal tissues, NewWorld Medical who donated glaucoma devices and Doximity who donated travel costs. This mission was in collaboration with SIM, a worldwide organisation who looks after needy people in developing countries.
